We name all our cats after Angels or Angelic type figures. A group of cats is called a clowder. You can also refer to a group of cats as a clutter or a glaring. Which I found very interesting.
Our oldest kitty is Gabriel, he came to us on Halloween in 2010 and he was a little rescue ginger with a tiny white pip on the end of his tail that we call his pip or puff. The vet said he was probably around 11 weeks old. So we chose August 10th, 2010 for his birthday.
He’s now our Senior cat and he makes sure he lets people know that he is very very particular. Petting is very welcome and he’s a very nice lap cat of purrs. However he does not like when you are trying to shoo him away and he’s asleep. He hisses but never hurts. He’s got many nicknames which I will try to share with you all here but first lets start with his name Gabriel. Gabriel is named after my favorite archangel. Gabriel is the messenger of G-d, and he’s also the one who appeared to the prophet Daniel.
There is a prayer we say before bed in Judaism that says:
May Michael, the energy of love, be on my right side.
May Gabriel, the energy of courage, be on my left side.
May Uriel, the energy of vision, be in front of me.
May Raphael, the energy of healing, be behind me.
Shechinat El: May your energy surround me.
And may I feel Your Presence inside me.
I love You and You love me.
Our number two kitty who is our second oldest is Balthazar. His full name is Balthazar Loki Michael. At the time I was going through a Supernatural freak out and named him after an angel from the tv show Supernatural named Balthazar. Loki also was a character on the show I liked so he got that one too. Then finally Michael, another Archangel as his third name.
Balthazar is a full blooded Bengal cat. And he likes to prove it by hollering all the time.
He has small spots and what is called barring along his sides. This makes him not what a lot of people want in a Bengal cat. He’s an old school Bengal, how they used to look before the giant rosettes was popular.
He was born on June 2, 2011 and came home to us in early August. He’s been nothing but a loud mouthed joy since then. He’s also my bath and shower buddy and almost always joins me. He is a great kitty and whenever I am dealing with seizures Balthazar will come and lay against me and head butt against me until I’m well. He’s 19 lbs and a very big boy.
Balthazar loves our cat tree and is a cat nip aholic! You give him catnip and he’s all over and licking the floor and himself and rolling around wildly. He also loves watching out the window but he loves watching the rain fall outside the window. He has some toy mice that he adores and he also gets in on the laser light love.
Balthazar has a lot of nicknames too: Balth, Thaz, Zar, Mike, Micky, Mouthazar, loud boy, big boy, spotty butt.
His first name in Hebrew looks like this: בלתזר
The Michael of his name looks like this: מיכאל
Our next kitty we have is Valkyrie! Valkyrie is a rehabbed feral cat who was TNR’d as a young kitten and then brought inside for winter and then fostered there until we adopted her. When we adopted her her name was Dawn and I just didn’t think that fit so we went with Valkyrie. Now Valkyrie isn’t an angel name per-say but more the Valkyrie are a type of angel in Norse Mythology.
A Valkyrie is a female spirit who chooses who will live and who will die in battle. They are essentially an angel of death. So we decided Valkyrie would fit in with our angel cats.
We got Kyrie on 11/26/2014 a few days after Thanksgiving. She hid under our bed for the longest time and I really worried about her. Then one day out of nowhere she came out from under the bed and crawled right into bed with me.
Valkyrie is a really sweet ball of fluff. She likes sleeping on people and getting her belly rubbed. She does not however like people messing with her cute fluffy toe beans. She doesn’t mind wearing hats and loves being brushed. She can make almost anything into a toy but she really loves these little plush balls that have sparkles in them. She is my big baby of the whole bunch and she’s also the most skittish.
She is also our littlest cat weighing in at only 8 lbs. All the others are over 10 lbs but she’s our petite little girl. By our estimation Kyrie is about 4 years old. She’s our beautiful baby cat. She also is missing the tip of her left ear which is what they do to TNR cats to show they were fixed.
She has a lot of nicknames too honestly lol Kyrie, Kye Kye, Myrie, Fluff, Floof, Puff Girl, Baby, Baby Cakes.

Azrael is a Highlander kitten. His breed the ears curled up is natural as is his very short tail. A lot of Highlanders have polydactyl or more toes than regular cats but Azrael has straight feet.
He was born on March 9, 2018 and we brought him home on June 12th of 2018 too. He is such a ham! He likes to play and roam around the house and meow. He’s got such a different meow than all the other angels though. His are these short little rrrrow type of meows. Almost like cat barks. His favorite toy is the butterfly battery toy. The butterflies go around and around and he’ll grab them and run through the whole house with them. He likes napping in mom’s chair too. He lays like a little froggy sometimes and it cracks everyone up.
Azrael is named after Azrael the Angel of Death. A lot of my fellow Jews are too superstitious to name a pet after the Angel of Death but I have a lot of fear of death. Because of this I thought naming him Azrael would help me overcome my fear. He has definitely been the light of our lives and has made all of our lives more joyful.
His nicknames are Baby, Azzy, Little Boy, Little Son, BB
His name looks like this in Hebrew: עזראל
Lilah was born July 25, 2018. Lilah is a purebred Highlander like Azrael. Her gotcha day was October 28, 2018. However she has straight ears and a long tail. Lilah is polydactyl and has 6 fingers and claws on her front feet. We have to watch her feet closely and trim her nails often so that they don’t hurt her.
Lilah loves stealing stuffed animals and socks and hiding them all over the house. She adopts them all as her babies and takes very good care of them. However my children have to be careful where they leave their toys as Lilah will take them away! She loves playing with ribbons too.
She has the funniest little meows and a tiny tiny kitten voice. When we got Lilah she ended up with a really bad upper respiratory infection that led us to having to medicate her three times a day for months. Because of this she has scaring in her tear ducts and nasal passages and she’s a very snotty kitten because of it and requires lots of nose wiping and eye wiping haha.
Lilah is Hebrew for night. It’s spelled לילה. Lilah is the angel of conception.
A short stop with us before moving on.
Hayyel no longer lives with us. She was with us for 5 years but had to be rehomed due to behavioral issues. The vet told us that she needed to be in an only cat household. It was a very hard decision.
She was named after the angel of wild animals. We got her from a little girl down the street who came to us in tears because her mom was trying to throw the 6 month old kittens they had outside and dump them. Her name was Krypto when we got her but it did not fit her at all. She’s a Calico baby and we decided that Hayyel fit her very well.
Hayyel is an aggressive snuggler. lol that might be a weird way to say it but if your hands are anywhere near her? She would stand up and make you pet her by putter her head into your hand. She loves light up toys and little toy mice. She’d keep them in her mouth and carry them all over the house. She thought that the moment I got up from my wheelchair it instantly was transformed into a cat bed. Because of that I had to keep rolly sticky brushes in all my wheelchair bags lol She loved sleeping in boxes and crates too.
Surprisingly she didn’t have as many nicknames as the others: Hay-Hay, Little Bit are her only real nicknames.
